Obituary of John Reginald Saunders Sr.

John Reginald "Reggie" Saunders Sr. was born on August 30, 1943, in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Norman Raymond Saunders Sr. and Wilhelmina "Billye" Brooks Saunders. He was baptized at Bright Hope Baptist Church and educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. From 1962 to 1965, Reggie proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he graduated from the Philadelphia Police Academy and embarked on a 20-year career with the Philadelphia Police Department. He faithfully served the citizens of Philadelphia until retiring after sustaining an off-duty accident. Reggie will be remembered for the love he gave to his family and for the lessons, laughter, stories, and memories he leaves behind. His jokes, music, helping hands, and unforgettable presence will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Reggie leaves to cherish his memory his devoted stepdaughter, Dr. Beverly Barksdale; his sons, Deacon John Reginald Saunders Jr. and Shannon Randall Saunders; his granddaughters, Brionna Wright and Rashannah Siedah Saunders; his sisters, Sharon McKant and Sandra Saunders; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
